"I'm just thinking a little," he replied quietly, untangling himself from his sister, standing, and stretching again as his eyes combed the tent for a shirt to wear. "We should motivate. I suppose waiting for Duskendale to march to us would be a bit much to ask."

Victorya cocked her head slightly, regarding her brother curiously, attempting to analyze the sudden shift in behavior. It was unusual, but she couldn't quite place her finger on what was off... The behavior itself wasn't, this was how he often acted in public. No, what was unusual was the timing of the change.

"Aelix, something's off. What's up?"

"There's nothing off," Aelix assured her, finding a black shirt that went with his riding gear and sliding it over his slender frame. "We have to march to Duskendale and take the town in the next few days to give Aegon a foothold after six months of attempts. I'm going to climb up the walls of a castle with just my bare fucking hands and a hundred men behind me and take it from the inside, and there's a sixty to forty chance I will die in the attempt. This war is going as well as I could have hoped."

"I never said it did. I stated the objective fact that you're going in there, and for once, I can't stab the people trying to stab you. Not that you probably need the help. You were selected to lead the group in the first place, so you're probably a better sword than I am anyway."

"I'd feel much better going up there with you by my side," he admitted. "And I selected myself. If I trusted anyone else half as much as you, you'd be going up with me, and they'd hold my part of the host."

"I wouldn't be going up there. You just need the hundred best swords, I don't even rank. I'd just be the comfort. It's like trickery. The only benefits are psychological." Victorya replied, slipping into her outer clothes, and buckling on her sword belt.

"So I'll stick to what I can do, and hold down the army. Though no doubt I'll do it with every lord for a hundred miles looking down their nose at me."

Aelix considered opening his mouth to say something else, but got the prickling feeling that nothing he said would be of much consequence to Victorya, so dead-set in her ways and beliefs about the world and culture they were trying to fold into their own. It irritated him and saddened him in (almost) equal measure, and he kept silent with a shrug as he threw a sword over his back, strapped a dirk to his thigh, and looked at himself in the tent's mirror twice or three times, playing with his hair before it was long and perfect as usual.

"If anyone gives you problems..."
